Harvest has long inspired more than celebration. In European folk traditions, figures were sometimes created from the final grain of the harvest, with folklore connecting them to the spirit of the crop and the hope of carrying abundance from one season into the next.
In this hands-on workshop, we'll explore some of the history and folklore surrounding harvest figures and spirit dolls before creating our own modern interpretations centered on gratitude, reflection, and the personal harvests we gather throughout our lives.
Your doll won't come from a pattern, and there is no "right" way for it to look. You'll begin by choosing from a collection of hand-sculpted faces, then build your figure using fabrics, yarns, fibers, florals, trims, and embellishments.
As you create, you'll consider what your own harvest has been this year. Your doll might represent a person you're grateful for, a place that has become important to you, something you've accomplished, a difficult season you've made it through, or simply the abundance already present in your life.
Together we'll explore:
The history and folklore surrounding harvest figures and symbolic dolls
Harvest as a season of gratitude, reflection, and preparation
Using color, texture, and personal symbolism to tell a story
Creating intuitively without worrying about perfection or following a pattern
Ways to use your finished doll as a tangible reminder of what you choose to carry forward
You'll leave with a completely one-of-a-kind harvest doll, created by your own hands and carrying a story and meaning that belong entirely to you.
No artistic experience is necessary. All materials are provided.
